How to become a STARS tutor?

The STARS program stands for Special Teachers or Tutors for At-Risk Students. We are recruiting teachers and tutors from all walks of life and backgrounds. We especially want to invite and recruit African American tutors and teachers due to the lack of African Americans in education. All children respond to teachers and tutors who have the same race, nationality and background.

We train all tutors in our curriculum and teaching style.

Conduct individual assessments of students

Provide face-to-face and online instruction to students

Create customized learning plans for students

Use our proprietary curriculum to teach math and reading skills

Help students achieve advanced math and reading scores

Our approach to supporting students is for long-term success and at S.T.A.R.S, we understand that this is done by fostering relationships. One-and-done or single problem-focused sessions are ineffective and as such, we match students and tutors to stay together until the student is ready to move on to the next subject. Our sessions with students focus on subject knowledge, critical thinking and learning skills to ensure their long-term success. Our platform helps parents support their kids’ success by providing them with the necessary information.

Experienced. Passionate. Knowledgeable.

  • Create a schedule each week
  • Log on unscheduled and pick up sessions
  • Set availability for scheduled appointments

You are paid a set hourly rate dictated by the subjects you tutor, and there are incentives available for high-quality tutoring. Unlike private tutoring where you must deal with potential delays from clients, payment comes on a set schedule directly from GiveAndGlobal.org. More information on our pay structure will be provided once you have successfully completed the initial application and subject exam phase of the process.

If you meet our prerequisites and you want to become a tutor, check out our Application Process or apply now! The application process will take 1-3 weeks, depending on how quickly you complete each step.
